Pattaya Islands, Pattaya Islands Guide - Koh Lan, Koh Phai, Koh Krok & Koh Sak

Koh Lan or Koh Larn :

'Koh Lan or Koh Larn is one of the Eastern Seaboard Islands of Thailand. Koh Lan is the largest of the "Near Islands", off South Pattaya. It is located at the SE end of the Bay of Bangkok, on the eastern side of the Gulf of Siam. Administratively Koh Lan belongs to the Amphoe Bang Lamung, Chonburi Province.

Koh Lan lies 8 Km away from the nearest shore and it is about 4 Km in length. It is a hilly island, covered with low tropical forest; its highest point reaches 205 m and there is a Buddhist shrine on top of the mountain. The island has two small villages on it: Ban Koh Lan and Ban Krok Makhan where there are lodgings and restaurants. There are ferries connecting Koh Lan to the mainland. Some local tour operators in nearby Pattaya organize picnic and snorkelling excursions to Koh Lan because there is a relaxed atmosphere and beaches with clear water. The ferry ride takes about 40 minutes. Ferries leave South Pattaya Pier daily from 10:00 am to 6.30 pm, the one-way fare is 20 Baht. The return ferry leaves Koh Lans Na Ban Beach at 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm.

Most of Koh Lan's beaches are on its western side. The most visited one is Tawaen Beach, where there is a small harbor. All the length of the beach is lined with small tourist shops behind which are dining halls of restaurants whose menu is based mainly on fish and seafood. Other beaches are Tonglang Beach, Tien Beach, Samae Beach and Naon Beach.

"Koh Lan" is the name of the island in the Royal Thai General System of Transcription. It is also known as "Koh Larn" in the English-based Thai transcription that is now becoming obsolete.

The Koh Larn Classic is a sailing and running race event held at the nearby Royal Varuna Yacht Club in Pattaya.

Koh Phai is a small uninhabited archipelago belonging to the Eastern Seaboard Islands of Thailand. The largest island is Koh Phai, located about 21 Km to the west of Pattaya. It is also mentioned as "Bamboo Island", the meaning of its name in Thai, in tourist guides. This island is located at the SE end of the Bay of Bangkok, on the eastern side of the Gulf of Siam. Administratively Koh Phai belongs to the Amphoe Bang Lamung, Chonburi Province.

Koh Phai is almost 4 Km in length and its maximum width is about 1.5 Km. It is a quite craggy wooded island and a great part of its coast is formed by rocky cliffs. The whole island is high, but its highest point is only 150m and there is not a single peak dominating above the others. There is a light house on the summit of the island.

"Koh Phai" is the name of the island in the Royal Thai General System of Transcription. It is also known as "Koh Pai" in the English-based Thai transcription that is now becoming obsolete.

The closest land to the Koh Phai group is Koh Lan, located about 14 Km to the east of Koh Phai's eastern shore. These islands can be reached in about 2 hours by boat from Southern Pattaya harbor. The rental rate depends on the size of the boat and the destination. All these islands are a protected natural area under the supervision of the Royal Thai Navy. Visitors ought to bring their own food and water and they are not allowed to stay overnight on Mu Koh Phai.

Approximately 8 kilometers off of Pattaya Beach is Ko Krok, an isle almost totally surrounded by rock formations. A gap of 100 meters to the east is a stretch of sandy beach where visitors can go and enjoy viewing underwater coral reefs. This island can be reached by chartered boat from South Pattaya. (As this is a private island, permission to enter must be obtained beforehand) There are not any activities available as mach as Koh Larn due to this kind of private islands, Anyhow, Koh Krok island is one of scuba diving and fishing site

Sak Island or Koh Sak is north of Lan island the distance about 600meters. Koh Sak is the nearest island to Koh Lan. You can take boat from Koh Lan to Koh Sak. Its shape is like horseshoe comprise of two beach on the north and south area of island. Koh Sak also good for Snorkeling. Koh Sak beach is very clean and clear, environment at Koh Sak is quite during moring time. Enjoy jet ski or Banana boat on clean and white sand beach.
